He surprised everyone with a very impressive rookie season, posting incredible numbers for a newcomer. The former University of the Philippines stalwart finished in the top five for Rookie of the Year honors which eventually went to Sta. Lucia's Kelly Williams. But Reyes’ stellar freshman still merited a spot in the All-Rookie Team.
The 23-year old Reyes, the youngest player last season, was the only Welcoat player to start in all 35 games and rewarded the team with 12.5 points and 8.9 rebounds per game. He was one of the two rookies to land in the top 10 of the rebounding category. His 1.6 blocks per game was No. 2 among locals, just behind the 1.7 of Sta. Lucia's Marlou Aquino. Just for one year, Reyes has proven that he'll be a big time player soon in the league.
